Salem
and River Road orphanages
support both the physical and
spiritual needs of the children.
Most of these children have lost
both parents due to the AIDS
virus and would have no other
place to live if it weren’t for
the sacrifices and dedication of
the women and men who are
faithfully serving our Lord by
giving of themselves in pure
adoration of Him. I have been
personally blessed by spending
time with them and they are true
children of God.
Salem Orphanage – Kisumu,
Kenya
Salem Orphanage is a refuge for
orphans in Kisumu, Kenya. Phoebe
Onyango is the founder and
caretaker of more than 100
children of various ages. I have
had the privilege of spending
time at the orphanage and these
children are feed, have clean
clothes to wear and are bathed
every day. But the number and
amount of their needs is
immense. We have figured that
the monthly needs for a child
under this care is a $1.75/day.
This includes; food, medicine,
school books, lodging, uniforms,
tuition.
Phoebe has an entrepreneurial
vision of the orphanage being
self sufficient to the point
where they are supplying the
needs of orphans throughout
Kenya. They currently produce
much of their own vegetables and
they have been given a 100 acres
of land that can be cultivated
and planted to produce crops
that can be sold and collected
to support the needs of the
orphans.
Specific Needs: Chicken Coup
funding for egg production;
$9,000.

2011
Trip
During this year’s trip we came
to see the wonderful work being
done at the orphanage. Phoebe
has worked at the end of 2010 to
prepare 15 acres of land for
farming. During our trip in
April we saw tomatoes and
cabbage being grown that are
producing additional revenue to
support the needs of the
orphans. Phoebe uses 1 acre to
train local towns people to
learn how their own bush land
can be turned into a farm that
produces crops and dollars to
support their families.
I met two very special people at
the farm who provide a glimpse
into the impact of the epidemic
of AIDS. Consletta is a 78 year
old grandmother of 6 who she is
currently supporting the needs
of these children by working on
the farm for $2.40/day. All of
her children have died of AIDS
and now she is left to care of
for them. John who also cares
for 3 grandchildren because his
children had died of AIDS works
to remove brush so that more
crops can be planted. He is 80
and makes the $2.40/day.
Specific Needs:
Chicken Coup funding for egg
production; $9,000, $3,000 roof
for the High School which was
damaged by a wind storm, $750
water pump for the farm to help
irrigate the fields.

River
Road – Ogembo, Kenya
River Road Orphanage – In 2010
donors came through to purchase
a roof for the orphanage which
made this year’s trip possible.
2011 visit was to help them with
their bedding needs. We reached
out to close friends and family
who were willing to donate the
$125.00 per bunk bed which
included mattresses and bedding.
During the trip we were there to
deliver 24 bunk beds that were
built locally which helped
support businesses in Kisii,
Kenya.
The children were tremendously
excited to know that they would
have the opportunity to sleep in
their own beds in a new room
which was created based on our
donor’s kindness. It was a great
day of thanksgiving and joy from
the great gifts the Lord
provided through the Body of
Christ.
*I Am Here For You Ministries
